Jewelry is not just a fashion accessory, but often also a treasured keepsake. To preserve the longevity and luster of your jewelry, careful care and storage are essential. This guide offers helpful tips and tricks on how to properly care for, store, and protect your jewelry.

1. General Care Instructions

• Regular cleaning: Jewelry should be cleaned regularly to remove dirt, oil, and other impurities. Use a mild detergent and lukewarm water. Avoid harsh chemicals and aggressive cleaning agents.
• Gentle cleaning: Use a soft cloth or a soft toothbrush to clean your jewelry. Avoid abrasive materials that could scratch the surface.
• Drying: Dry your jewelry carefully with a soft, lint-free cloth. Make sure no moisture remains, as this can lead to discoloration or corrosion.

2. Specific care for different materials

• Gold: Clean gold jewelry with warm water and a drop of mild dish soap. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely.
• Silver: Silver is prone to oxidation. Use special silver cleaning products or cloths to restore its shine.
• Gemstones: Gemstones require gentle cleaning. Do not use chemical cleaning agents, as these can damage the stones. A soft cloth and warm water are usually sufficient.
• Pearls: Pearls are particularly delicate. Use a soft cloth to clean them after wearing. Avoid contact with perfume, hairspray, and other chemicals.

3. Storage

• Individual compartments: Store jewelry in separate compartments or pouches to avoid scratches and knots in chains.
• Dark and dry: Store your jewelry in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. A jewelry box with a soft lining is ideal.
• Avoid chemicals: Keep your jewelry away from household chemicals, cosmetics, and perfumes that can damage the surface.

4. Proper conduct

• When getting dressed: Jewelry should only be put on after dressing and applying cosmetics to minimize contact with chemicals.
• When playing sports and sleeping: Remove jewelry before playing sports, showering or sleeping to avoid damage and contamination.
• Swimming pool and sea: Avoid wearing jewelry in swimming pools and the sea. Chlorine in the pool and salt water can corrode and make the metal brittle, thus damaging the jewelry.
• Regular inspection: Regularly check closures and sockets for integrity and have repairs carried out by a professional if necessary.

5. Professional care

• Regular maintenance: Have your jewelry cleaned and inspected regularly by a professional jeweler/goldsmith. This ensures that it remains in perfect condition.
• Repairs: In case of damage, you should take the jewelry to a professional immediately to avoid further damage.

Proper care and storage of your jewelry not only guarantees its longevity but also preserves its beauty and value. With these simple yet effective tips, you can ensure that your treasured pieces remain in top condition for many years to come.
